KOREAN SATURDAY AT TOMO BREJC PRIMARY SCHOOL IN KAMNIK, SLOVENIA

On April 1 we organized the first Korean Saturday in Slovenia. Its goal was to get to know the Korean culture, language and break Asian stereotypes.
The visitors were able to choose among five different workshops. They could learn the basics of Korean language with a teacher of Korean language from language centre Genki, make a stamp with their name in hangul, compete in traditional Korean games, participate in Kahoot quiz to check their knowledge of Korean language and culture, and learn a choreography to a BTS song. The visitors could also participate at the culture exchange market where they were able to try on hanboks, the traditional Korean clothing, learn about traditional food through interactive games, practice their skills in holding chopsticks and show their creativity by making Korean flags and colour special colouring books. At the K-pop corner they could pick a photocard of their favourite idol, stick it to the poster and leave a positive note or a quote. Some of the visitors even took a photo with a member of BTS (unfortunately it was just a life size cardboard cut-out of V).
To keep the atmosphere fun and lively, the visitors were able to choose songs according to their wishes, dance at a Random Play Dance show and collect stamps for prizes donated by the Korean Embassy.
The purpose of this day was to get to know the Korean culture in a positive atmosphere, broaden horizons, getting to know new people and break the walls that are built because we are afraid of different and unknown worlds. The event connected people, formed new friendships, and put a smile on everyone’s faces.
A special thanks goes to all external collaborators who volunteered to be a part of this event, to teachers who made sure everything ran smoothly and kindly welcomed all the guests, and to our headmistress who supported our project. THANK YOU.
